Chelsea's Spending Spree Leads to Staggering £262.4M Pre-Tax Loss - Premier League Record
Đăng trên Tháng tư 02, 2026, updated on Tháng tư 02, 2026
Chelsea Football Club has announced the biggest pre-tax loss in Premier League history, a staggering £262.4 million for the 2024-25 season. This figure eclipses the previous record of £197.5 million set by Manchester City in 2011.
Despite generating the second-highest revenue in the club's history at £490.9 million, Chelsea's substantial investments in new players have resulted in these unprecedented losses. Since the American consortium BlueCo took over the club in 2022, they have spent over £1 billion on acquiring a raft of younger players on long-term contracts.
In the 2024-25 season, Chelsea won the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup, while finishing fourth in the Premier League. However, the club insists that they remain compliant with financial regulations such as Profit and Sustainability Rules, which allow losses of up to £105 million over a three-year period.
The reported losses include fines, such as the £10.75 million Premier League sanction related to agent payments made under previous ownership, as well as write-offs in the accounts for high-profile players like Raheem Sterling, who was released, and Mykhailo Mudryk, who is being investigated over a failed drug test.
Chelsea believes that their income will be at record levels in their next accounts, with an additional £85 million earned from winning the Club World Cup and approximately £80 million in television revenue from the Champions League. However, the club's 40,000-capacity Stamford Bridge stadium and the introduction of new Premier League squad-cost ratio rules remain concerns, as they could put Chelsea at a disadvantage compared to their wealthier rivals.
The sheer scale of Chelsea's losses highlights the challenges faced by the club as they navigate the complex financial landscape of modern football. While their spending has brought success on the pitch, it has come at a significant cost, setting a new benchmark for the highest pre-tax loss in Premier League history.
