Man Utd Close to Announcing Ederson as First Summer Signing
Đăng trên Tháng năm 28, 2026, updated on Tháng năm 28, 2026
Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson as their first major deal of the summer, with a deal understood to be close to completion. The situation remains sensitive, and United officials have downplayed reports that an agreement is already in place, but the expectation is that an initial fee of around £35m, plus £3m in add-ons, will trigger the move for the 26-year-old Brazil international.
Ederson has 12 months left on his contract at Atalanta, which gives United some leverage, but the club’s eagerness to act quickly shows how much they see him as a priority. He is seen as a midfielder who can add dynamism, good ball progression and energy, and is being compared to Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães. He was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s long list for Brazil’s World Cup squad but did not make the final cut, a decision that could yet be regretted by his country.
Union United are focusing heavily on central midfield this summer, especially with Casemiro leaving and uncertainty around Manuel Ugarte’s future. They would ideally like to make two or three midfield signings, though their first choice, Elliot Anderson, appears to be leaning towards Manchester City. Ederson is therefore seen as a strong alternative who can still deliver at a high level.
The move comes as United announce third-quarter profits of £37.7m and chief executive Omar Berrada speaks positively about the club’s progress after an unexpected third-placed finish under Michael Carrick. However, United still have around £482m in outstanding trade and other payables, most of it in transfer fees, and total debt remains just under £1.3bn when all borrowings and legacy Glazer debt are included.
Despite the financial pressure, United want to be competitive in the market without repeating past mistakes of offering expensive long contracts. Ederson fits that model: a proven Serie A player with Brazil experience, a strong track record at Atalanta and a profile that could handle the pressure at Old Trafford. His background at Cruzeiro, where he stood out even during a period of off-field turmoil, also suggests he has the temperament to cope with the demands of a big club.
The club have also confirmed that the cost of sacking Ruben Amorim was £16.7m, and that Carrick has been rewarded for his caretaker spell with a permanent appointment after steering the team to a strong finish. With the new stadium project continuing and the business transformation ongoing, this Ederson deal is being framed as part of a wider reset aimed at building a more balanced and competitive squad for the season ahead.
