Ruben Amorim emerges as leading candidate for AC Milan job

Former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has emerged as a leading candidate to take over at AC Milan. He has been out of work since leaving United in January, and talks have reportedly already taken place between Milan and his representatives.

Amorim is one of several names linked with the job, but he is understood to be high on Milan’s shortlist as they look for a replacement for Massimiliano Allegri. Allegri was dismissed in May after Milan failed to qualify for the Champions League, finishing just outside the top four after a disappointing late-season collapse.

Milan had been in a strong position earlier in the campaign, moving nine points clear of fifth place after beating Inter in March. But their form dipped badly over the final weeks, with only three wins in their last 10 matches and just 10 points collected, which allowed Como to take the final Champions League place on the last day.

Amorim had been linked with a return to Benfica, where he spent six years as a player, but that move now appears unlikely. Other managers in the frame for Milan include USA coach Mauricio Pochettino and Oliver Glasner, who left Crystal Palace after guiding them to Uefa Conference League success against Rayo Vallecano.

Another former Manchester United boss, Ralf Rangnick, had also been mentioned, but he is no longer available after extending his deal with Austria until 2028.

If Amorim does land the Milan job, it would set up a quick reunion with Manchester United. The two clubs are scheduled to meet in pre-season in Wroclaw, Poland on 15 August, just a week before the Premier League season begins.
