PSG pull out as Real Madrid close in on Diomande

Paris Saint-Germain have formally withdrawn from the race to sign RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, leaving Real Madrid increasingly confident of landing the 19-year-old. PSG said Leipzig’s fee demands and Diomande’s salary expectations were “completely disproportionate,” while Madrid are still pushing to finalise a deal after already agreeing personal terms with the Ivorian.

The withdrawal is a big shift because Diomande had previously been viewed as PSG’s player to lose, with reports suggesting he had even agreed a contract there until 2031. Real, though, never went away: they had an earlier bid rejected and have now stepped up their pursuit as they try to get Leipzig to soften their stance on price.

Diomande’s profile explains why the biggest clubs are chasing him. He has gone from a handful of senior games at Leganes to becoming one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe, described as lightning, unpredictable and hard to defend against.

The wider market matters too. Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool remain interested, but Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to go beyond £85m, while Arsenal are also tracking Vinicius Junior as a separate wide-forward option. That means Madrid’s willingness to keep pressing for Diomande could have a knock-on effect across several major clubs’ summer plans.

For now, Real Madrid look best placed to win the race, but Leipzig’s asking price is still the final hurdle. If Madrid get a deal done, it could also make Vinicius Junior’s future at the Bernabéu even more interesting, because one winger’s arrival may accelerate another’s exit.
