Arteta Anticipated Chelsea as Title Contenders This Season
Posted on March 15, 2025
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his disappointment at Chelsea's performance this season, stating that he expected them to be strong contenders for the Premier League title. As the two teams prepare to clash at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal currently sits second in the league, while Chelsea trails six points behind in fourth place. With Liverpool leading the table by a significant margin, both clubs now appear to be focused on securing their spots in next season's Champions League.
Arteta remarked on Chelsea's potential, noting that he believed they had the talent and coaching under Enzo Maresca to challenge for the title from the start of the season. He recalled how Chelsea showed promise during pre-season, and he felt confident that they could combine their skills to compete effectively. However, recent performances, which have seen Chelsea win only four of their last twelve matches, have raised concerns about their consistency and defensive vulnerabilities.
Despite the challenges Chelsea has faced, Arteta remains optimistic about Maresca's capabilities as a coach. He praised the clarity of Maresca's vision and approach, stating, "He's a magnificent coach," and expressed belief that Chelsea could still find their rhythm. Meanwhile, Arteta also highlighted the impressive form of Arsenal's young talent, Myles Lewis-Skelly, who recently received his first England call-up, reflecting the bright future ahead for both Arsenal and English football.
