Germany Secures World Cup Spot with 2-0 Win Over Luxembourg
Posted on November 15, 2025
Germany has successfully qualified for the 2026 World Cup following a solid 2-0 victory against Luxembourg at Stade de Luxembourg. Nick Woltemade was the standout performer, scoring both goals in the second half to secure the win and a top-two finish in Group A.
After a goalless first half, which saw opportunities for both teams but no breakthroughs, Germany made the crucial move shortly after the restart. Leroy Sane initiated a swift counter-attack, setting up Woltemade for the opener in the 49th minute. The momentum shifted firmly in Germany's favor from that point on.
Luxembourg fought hard but squandered a key chance to equalize when Aiman Dardari dragged a shot wide. Germany then doubled their lead in the 69th minute, with Woltemade converting another assist, this time from Ridle Baku. Despite a near miss from Sane, who hit the crossbar later in the match, the two-goal lead was sufficient for Germany to see out the game.
This win marks Germany's third consecutive clean sheet, a notable achievement in their World Cup qualifying campaign. Conversely, Luxembourg continues to struggle, suffering their sixth straight loss in qualification matches without finding the net, a run that extends their challenges from previous campaigns.
With the World Cup on the horizon, Germany’s confidence is growing, particularly with the young talents like Woltemade stepping up, suggesting a promising future for the national team.
