Spain and Belgium Secure World Cup Spots on Final Qualifying Day
Posted on November 19, 2025
Spain and Belgium have officially clinched their spots for the 2026 World Cup, concluding a dramatic qualifying campaign. Spain, despite a tense 2-2 draw against Turkey in Seville, finished top of Group E, marking their automatic qualification with high spirits.
The match featured an early goal from Dani Olmo, who scored his 12th international goal. However, Turkey responded with Deniz Gul’s equalizer and took the lead thanks to Salih Özcan. Spain fought back, with Mikel Oyarzabal securing the equalizer, ensuring that while they ended their perfect winning streak, they confirmed their place in the World Cup.
Belgium enjoyed a commanding 7-0 victory over Liechtenstein, with Charles De Ketelaere and Jeremy Doku each netting twice. This victory allowed Belgium to qualify for their fourth consecutive World Cup, despite the absence of key player Kevin De Bruyne due to injury.
Austria and Scotland also celebrated significant achievements that night. Austria secured their spot with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Scotland's thrilling 4-2 win over Denmark marked their first World Cup appearance since 1998.
With the playoffs approaching in March for the runners-up, attention will shift to the World Cup draw scheduled for December 5, setting the stage for this year’s tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
