Draymond Green Finishes Third in NBA Defensive Player of the Year Voting
Posted on April 25, 2025
Draymond Green's pursuit of a second NBA Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award has fallen short, as he finished third in the voting for the 2024-25 season. The award was ultimately won by Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Atlanta Hawks' Dyson Daniels taking second place. Green garnered 15 first-place votes and 20 second-place votes, finishing with a total of 154 points, while Mobley led with 285 points and Daniels with 197.
Throughout the season, Green showcased his defensive prowess, earning the Western Conference's Defensive Player of the Month award in March. In 68 regular-season games, he averaged 9.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. His campaign for the award included openly expressing his desire to reclaim the title he first won in the 2016-17 season.
In an interview, Green highlighted the significance of being recognized for defensive excellence, stating, "It would mean the world to me; you know I pride myself on the defensive end." He emphasized that while he values individual accolades, the recognition serves as a testament to his hard work and longevity in the league.
Despite not securing the DPOY award this season, Green remains a crucial component of the Golden State Warriors' lineup, with head coach Steve Kerr repeatedly praising him as the best defensive player he has ever encountered. As the playoffs approach, Green will look to continue his strong defensive play and contribute to the Warriors' quest for another championship.
