Elon Musk Expresses Interest in Liverpool, But Club Is Not for Sale

Posted on January 08, 2025

Elon Musk has reportedly shown interest in purchasing Liverpool FC, although the club's current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have made it clear that they are not selling. Errol Musk, Elon’s father, confirmed that his son would be interested in acquiring the Merseyside club, but no formal offers or approaches have been made to FSG. Since acquiring Liverpool for £300 million in 2010, FSG has sought outside investment in the past but has not considered a full sale.

Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol emphasized that Liverpool is not on the market, and the club's owners have not received any interest, including from Elon Musk. While Errol Musk hinted at his son's desire to buy Liverpool, he also noted that such an interest does not equate to an active pursuit of ownership. Liverpool's value is estimated at around £4.3 billion, which constitutes a small fraction of Musk's vast wealth, reportedly around £340 billion.

The feasibility of Musk owning Liverpool would hinge on convincing FSG to sell, as well as passing the Premier League's owners and directors test. Despite his financial capability, concerns remain regarding the acceptance of Musk by the club's fanbase, which is deeply rooted in community values and social justice. Previous comments from FSG have reiterated their commitment to Liverpool, with no current indications that a sale is forthcoming.
