Mykhailo Mudryk Faces Possible Four-Year Ban for Doping Violation

Posted on June 19, 2025

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for violating anti-doping regulations after failing a drugs test, which could result in a ban of up to four years. The 24-year-old Ukrainian international was provisionally suspended in December following an adverse finding from a routine urine test. Under FIFA guidelines, players who intentionally use prohibited substances can face significant penalties, including lengthy suspensions.

Mudryk expressed his shock at the situation, stating he has "never knowingly used any banned substances." Since the incident, he has not played for Chelsea, with his last appearance on November 28. The club has provided support to Mudryk during this challenging time, focusing on his mental well-being, as he is currently unable to train with the team. He did attend Chelsea's UEFA Conference League final victory in Poland last month, but not as part of the squad.

The FA confirmed the charges related to the presence and/or use of a banned substance as per their anti-doping regulations. Chelsea has not publicly commented on the ongoing situation but previously stated they would investigate the circumstances surrounding the failed test. Mudryk has the option to request an analysis of his B sample, which, if it confirms the initial findings, could lead to a formal hearing where he can either accept the charges or contest them. Signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for up to £89 million in January 2023, Mudryk has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances for Chelsea, and his contract runs until June 2031.
